Problem #1 Comments
Massive cornices have formed from the typical winds from the Southwest and West along the exposed ridgeline. It appeared that a substantial cornice chunk broke free during the warming period between the 27th and 31st, judging by the fresh snow in the carved out path of the roller-ball, deposited during the unsettled pattern around the 1st through the 3rd.
Comments
Overall the snow structure seemed very solid from a good refreeze, with no collapsing or cracking, and just a trace few inches of snow left on the ridge line from this last storm. I'd imagine the wind carried most of it; I was able to find deeper pockets to the West of the cornices. The ridge was very wind-scarred, with a few bare spots. I'm sure as it warms up in the next few days these cornices will definitely become much more treacherous.
