Membership F.A.Q.

Why should you consider becoming a member of the UAC?

The UAC is a community-supported avalanche center. As a UAC member, you directly support the forecasts you and your partner use on every backcountry adventure. Your membership also supports avalanche awareness and education programs that give you and our backcountry community the knowledge they need to use the forecast and other avalanche safety tools to have fun and come home safe each day

What are the benefits of becoming a member?

UAC membership benefits include a unique member gift, a member sticker, and other perks based on your giving level.

  • Ridge members receive a pair of custom UAC socks and discounts to UAC events.
  • Cirque members receive a custom UAC Arcade belt, discounts to UAC events, and discounts on UAC gear sold on the UAC store.
  • Peak members receive a KÜHL blanket with a UAC logo, discounts to UAC events, discounts on UAC gear sold on the UAC store, and invitations to member-only events.

What is the difference between being a donor and a member?

We appreciate everyone that supports the UAC. Donations continue to be an avenue for those who want to support our work without receiving tangible benefits. Memberships include benefits that have a monetary value based on the member levels. By offering different options, we aim to provide convenient, accessible, and fun ways for anyone interested in giving to the UAC.

Is this donation tax deductible?

The Utah Avalanche Center is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization and your donation is tax-deductible within the guidelines of U.S. law. A donation receipt will be sent upon membership signup completion.

Can I pay my UAC membership fee through my Donor-Advised Fund?

Using a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) is a great way to support the UAC's programs, but it can only be used to cover membership costs under specific circumstances. Please check with your financial advisor for guidelines and then contact us via email or at 801-365-5522 option 5 with questions.

Do I need to be a member to get the UAC forecasts?

No! The Utah Avalanche Center will continue to provide free public safety products to anyone who wants them. Being a member means you are investing in our products and enabling us to improve them so that we can keep people on top of the snow instead of buried beneath it.

What does my membership support?

Membership dues are critical in supporting avalanche safety throughout Utah. Memberships are unrestricted donations that support UAC operations and programming such as:

  • Know Before You Go
  • Developing avalanche safety videos and signage
  • Creating outreach for new and existing users
  • Building new web and mobile applications
  • Supporting the UAC’s forecast, education, and awareness operations

See our latest Annual Report for more information on our investments in avalanche safety.

I donated, attended an event, and/or bought merchandise, etc. - does this apply to membership?

We are grateful for how you and other community members support the UAC’s programs, so thank you for your donations and purchases! If you made a donation and want to update it to a membership, please contact us via email or call 801-365-5522 option 5.

When do I get my gift?

Expect your membership gift to arrive 6-8 weeks after registration. The UAC's small staff manages all membership fulfillment, and we appreciate your patience! If you are a monthly recurring member, you’ll receive monthly receipts, and your membership will automatically renew one year after joining. If you are an annual recurring member, you'll receive a receipt one year after joining, and your membership will automatically renew. All recurring members will receive member gifts each year, 6-8 weeks after the anniversary of the membership start date.

How do I change or cancel my membership?

If you wish to cancel or change your membership level, please contact us via email or call 801- 365-5522 option 5.
