Forecast for the Skyline Area Mountains

The overall avalanche danger rating is LOW today on the Manti Skyline.
You can travel around in most terrain without too much worry about getting caught in an avalanche. Keep in mind that LOW danger doesn't mean NO danger. Here is what I'm looking out for today:
  • Lingering wind slabs: It seems pretty unlikely to trigger one of these today but if you were to trigger one it would be in the higher terrain on VERY steep slopes that face north through east.
  • Wet avalanche activity: This also seems like it will be a minor issue today. We had a solid freeze overnight which will have locked up the new snow. I don't think it's going to get warm enough today to make the snowpack become unstable. Increasing clouds and moderate wind speeds should also hold wet activity at bay. If you find yourself in punchy, wet sloppy snow, it's time to avoid being on or below steep slopes.

Weather and Snow
Current Conditions: Warm temperatures and sun took a hit on the riding conditions Thursday making the snow damp or wet in most locations. There may be some hints of cold dense snow on the higher elevation north facing slopes. Otherwise, you'll find a melt freeze crust in most locations this morning. Temperatures were 30 to 35˚F on Thursday and dropped back into the teens overnight. The wind was from the southeast and was generally light on Thursday. It did drift a little snow along the high ridges. The wind has picked up in speed over the last few hours.
Mountain Weather: Today starts out nice with mostly clear skies but we'll see increasing clouds later on. We'll see moderate speed wind from the south. It'll feel a little breezy. High temperatures should get into the mid 30s. Saturady looks fairly similar to today. Temperatures continue to warm into next week. For the long range, I'm not seeing any real significant storms.
