Forecast for the Skyline Area Mountains

Brett Kobernik
Issued by Brett Kobernik on
Thursday morning, April 11, 2024
The overall avalanche danger remains generally LOW on the Skyline today.
Avalanche conditions remain pretty quiet and there is not much threat out there today.
To avoid any trouble, move off of steep slopes as they become overly wet and sloppy. Stay out of gullies and steep walled ravines as well when the snow gets slushy.

Weather and Snow
Current Conditions: Temperatures got into the mid 40s on Wednesday and dropped down to around freezing overnight. The snow surface will be frozen this morning. Riding conditions are typical for the Spring. It's best to let the snow warm up and soften a bit before getting out there.
Mountain Weather: High temperatures are going to get into the upper 40s today. Wind will be light from the southwest. We'll continue to see slightly warmer temperatures each day through Saturday.

Description
Same old spring-time story. There's not much going on as far as avalanches are concerned. The snow surface gets frozen overnight and warms and gets wet during the heat of the day. As long as things don't get too wet and sloppy, we won't see much avalanche threat. That said, when I travel through the mountains in the Spring, I don't overstay my welcome on steep slopes. I avoid being on or below them later in the day when the snow is really wet and slushy.
