Comments
We were skinning near the top of Black Bess/along Fantasy Ridge when the first skier remotely caused a cornice to break and fall into a small NE facing chute. The approx. 200 lb chunk of cornice caused an immediate propagation of a wind slab about 8-12" deep. We investigated the cornices on the rest of the ridge line and found them to be quite large. Since this was above Solitude/Summit Lift, we called Solitude Ski Patrol to notify them of this incident and that no one, to our knowledge, was caught.
